"[Margherita was] so fully present in the work that I found my reality suspended as I journeyed with her into hers. The commitment to the moment managed to brush aside the questioning my mind is prone to (of meaning, content, form, construction...), and brought me back to the simple and undeniable reality of existence, where judgement has no role." Ann Moradian

“She excelled at fully embodying every moment of A Thousand Times and Never Before” Broadway World

“You had such control of the neurology of the movement that at no point you needed to create any momentum for change. The electricity was palpable” Audience member, A Thousand Times and Never Before

MARGHERITA TISATO started studying dance in Italy at the age of 8. She delved into Humprey-Limon and classical techniques and Maria Fux's dance-therapy methodologies with her long time teacher Elena Cerruto and under her guidance taught dance classes to children and adults, including diversely able individuals, psychiatric patients and court involved population from 2001 through 2006.

In New York since 2006, Margherita is a principal dancer with the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble and has danced with the company for over 10 years, recently working alongside Artistic Director Samantha Geracht to coach college students in Sokolow’s repertory. A Butoh artist and teacher, Margherita worked with The Vangeline Theater for over 10 years and has been leading classes and workshops nationally and internationally both independently and as a representative of the New York Butoh Institute. She also studied with other prominent Butoh Masters, such as Katsura Kan (for whom she performed in Paris in 2013), Yumiko Yoshioka, Mari Osanai, Atsushi Takenuchi and Diego Pinon among others, making Butoh an integral part of her artistic and spiritual practice. Margherita is also a long time Duncan dancer and works with Dances We Dance, a modern dance company based in New York and run by Francesca Todesco, stemming from the Duncan and Limon lineages.

Aside from dance, Margherita is a movement educator focusing on anatomy, somatic movement, and Trauma-Informed yoga, and her work includes teaching in prisons, therapeutic rehabilitation and alternative to incarceration facilities, as well as individuals affected by PTSD. With Anna Henson, she is currently working on a curriculum in Embodied Pedagogy for the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.

As an embodiment artist and facilitator whose work spans from yoga to body suspensions, resourcing from anatomy, Butoh, dance, and somatic movement, Margherita is deeply dedicated to work that is, first and foremost, truthful
